Reading time: 3 mins

If you’re shopping around for a new car, you should be weighing its technology alongside its make and model, besides other factors. Your car’s technology can impact the way you drive and elevate the entire driving experience. From protecting you while on the road, to full autonomous driving mode, safety and comfort are the main motivators behind these advanced technologies.

But, how do you choose a car with the right technology for you? Start by checking out this list of the most high-tech cars in 2022 to understand what technology is available and why you may need it while driving. Here’s why we picked these 4:

Do note that this is not a brand sponsored article and we understand that views of high-tech cars may vary from one driver to another.

1.  Advanced Car Safety Features - 2022 Acura MDX

This high-tech car was awarded the Top Safety Pick+ title by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), achieving high scores in all of the IIHS crashworthy ratings. It comes with a whole package of safety-related technology, including radar and camera sensors that monitor the vehicle’s surroundings. It has two 12.3” screens and a 360-degree parking camera.

So, in addition to things like airbags and seatbelts, standard safety equipment, the 2022 Acura MDX includes forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, road departure mitigation, traffic sign recognition, and blind-spot warning.

2. Great Navigation System - 2021 Cadillac Escalade

The new Cadillac Escalade made this high-tech car list because of its new “augmented reality function” which shows live-view navigation. Meaning, graphics appear on your live view in the navigation system, when your map is activated. This includes things like arrows that show exactly where you should turn.

This high-tech car also has more than 38-inches of display area – including a 14.2-inch display front and center, so you get a clear view of your surroundings and the road ahead. The OLED screens also offer night vision, to help you easily spot pedestrians when driving after dark.

3. Full Self-Driving and Autopilot - 2021 Tesla Model Y

This high-tech car’s full self-driving technology has created a buzz in the last few years. But, does this mean the driver can be totally hands-free behind the wheel? Well, not exactly. Although the autopilot mode does have a lot of advanced smart features, you’ll still be required to keep light contact with the steering wheel at all times.

Tesla’s “Enhanced Autopilot” system consists of lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring. These functions enable the car to keep to its lane on the motorway, adapt its speed to match the vehicle in front and avoid causing a collision.

On top of that, it has the ability to change lanes automatically, using the car’s sensors to note the proximity of surrounding cars and the speeds they’re travelling at. It also includes an “Autopark” function that enables the car to park itself, but of course, you should be inside the car at the time to witness this car tech in action!

The infotainment display in the 2021 Mercedes S-Class is made up of huge screens with a central 12.8-inch touchscreen display taking up the entire center dashboard. And this is not just for the driver to enjoy. The passengers in the back get to choose their own entertainment on their personal 11.6-inch screens on each seatback, with the rear-seat entertainment package.

This high-tech car features the second generation of its Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system that works through voice, touch, and even hand gestures. Integrated with a cloud-based app, as many as seven different user profiles can be stored in the car’s infotainment system so everyone is free to log into their own accounts when connected.

The MBUX system is meant to take the stress out of driving and ensure you and your passengers have an enjoyable drive. But of course, this does not mean you should take your eyes off the road. Bear in mind that the system is meant to be used with driver supervision at all times.

Besides keeping everyone entertained, it can learn each user’s preferences, and make suggestions based on driving and lifestyle patterns. For example, if you regularly call your spouse after work, the system will automatically bring their number to the screen at the regular time as a reminder. Or, if you have a favourite album that you play on the way to work in the mornings, it’ll always be on standby right on time. It’s like having your own personal assistant built into your car – it  simply doesn’t get any easier than that!

Which High-Tech Car System Do You Fancy?

In our opinion, these are just a few high-tech cars that can change your entire driving experience. They made it to our list for their specific features and functions – be it safety or sheer entertainment.  Of course, all new cars come with safety and comfort features but these few have taken the technology to another level.

However, bear in mind that the cost of your car insurance premium may increase if you own one of these technologically advanced vehicles. Car insurance is designed to protect your vehicle – besides its passengers – so the high cost of car insurance is inevitable due to high repair costs.

Because of that, it’s best to do your checks beforehand as not all insurers insure high-tech cars. Be clear on the make and model of your car when comparing car insurance quotes online. Good news is, with DirectAsia you can lower your car insurance premium costs by protecting and advancing your No Claims Discount (NCD) with NCD Protector Plus.

So, which high-tech car would you go for? Is it because of the technology we mentioned or did we miss something new? Share your thoughts in our comments section below.
