A Glimpse into the Future of Singapore Roads - DirectAsia

title

Electric cars. Driverless cars. Cars that fly.

Everyone has a different vision of what the future of transportation looks like. Sadly the driving cars everyone’s imagined since the 50’s are still far from possible. But the other two futures of cars seem to be happening sooner rather than later.

Charge Cars

Electric cars seem like an obvious advancement that should have happened years earlier. In Singapore they make great sense. The only big issue we still need to solve is how people will charge the cars? It’s not like you can run an extension cord out from your HDB flat to your electric car.

Finally Text and Drive

Driverless cars on the other hand have always seemed a bit more like science fiction. I know cars are getting smarter all the time, but smart enough to replace the driver? Apparently so with Google and others already deep into development. Tesla founder Elon Musk is predicting fully driverless cars in five or six years time!

"Maybe five or six years from now I think we'll be able to achieve true autonomous driving where you could literally get in the car, go to sleep and wake up at your destination."

Truly Sci-Fi…and in our lifetime! Soon the car will take care of the commute, leaving you free to read a book or check 2020’s must read app.

The Future’s Today

Those of us wanting to sample a bit of both right now need only to head down to the Chinese and Japanese Gardens where two driverless buggies will be available for booking starting this Thursday the 23rd of October.

The buggies feature an electric battery and driver’s assist. So you get both new technologies. Sure, the buggies aren’t quite as sexy as a Tesla Model S, but they will get you around efficiently and hands free.

The buggies will be free for the first week prior to a wider roll out. You can book them online at: www.smartnusav.com
