Podium Finishes

On October 13, at the Hong Kong Cycling Association's Yuen Long Criterium, it was hard to look at a podium without seeing a glorious yellow-dotted jersey or two. In the final, Paolo Caputo missed the podium’s top step by a single point, but was understandably delighted with his blistering second-placed performance. Another DirectAsia.com rider, Mike Maiers, dominated the 35-39 Age Group race, helping our boys sweep the podium. And Matty Kenfield bagged third spot in his category, the reward for a truly powerhouse performance. team directasia.com lead the game

Highly Technical Track

As always, the final of the competition was stiff, with teams such as Champion System, Xspeed and Total Sports NEILPRYDE making life tough for our team. However, the course too presented problems. It was a simple, squared course, but one which offered some highly technical challenges for Paolo Caputo – but challenges that he ultimately overcame:
"It was a good day of racing, my first race of the season six months after my last international race – the Tour of East Taiwan in April. It turned out to be my best result in a Hong Kong Criterium [Open Category] to date," said Caputo.

“I never looked back”: Caputo Avoids A Crash

At one point a crash behind Caputo created a ‘rubbernecking’ hazard for the Italian.
"I heard a couple of crashes behind and then saw a few teammates standing at the side of the road. I didn't know if they were involved in the crashes. I almost hit the deck when a Probike guy looked back to check on the crashes and swerved, almost catching my front wheel. “I politely explained to him that this wasn't the best idea – knowing how dangerous moves like that can be. I, too, never looked back."
In a thrilling final sprint, Caputo narrowly missed out on a top-of-podium finish, being pipped at the post by Yeung Ying Hon of Totalsport NeilPryde. Caputo now has his sights set on the upcoming Tour de Matabungkay. team directasia.com avoid crash

A Sweep In the Age Groups...

In the Age Group race DirectAsia.com riders Mike Maiers, Paolo Caputo and Deverell Smith took turns in holding the lead. After pulsating performances, Maiers took 1st, Caputo 2nd and Smith 3rd. This was Maiers’ second consecutive victory in this race, having won it last year. Mathew Kenfield gave team DirectAsia.com even more to celebrate, bagging third in his group. Kenfield’s performances have been improving race after race, rewarding all his hard work. team directasia.com
