Popular Spring Holiday Destinations Around the World

In Singapore, we are blessed with summer all year round but have you ever experienced spring? It’s one of the best seasons to experience on your travels. During spring it’s not too cold or hot, so you get to experience everything a country has to offer in comfort. You’ll also get to witness flowers blooming and trees budding, turning the sights and landscapes into fragrant, colourful mirages.

If you want to go on a holiday to celebrate spring, or simply want to enjoy the best a country has to offer, here are a few places to visit during those incredible spring months that truly standout. No matter where you decide to go, we guarantee that it will be an unforgettable spring adventure!

1. Koh Samui, Thailand

First on the list is the pristine and calm local shores of Koh Samui. Although the island does not actually have spring season, it is a good place to visit for warm weather and blue seas, besides amazing waterfalls, and magnificent Buddhist temples.

Located on the Eastern side of the Thai mainland in the province of Surat Thani, you can choose to go island hopping, snorkelling, or for a relaxing yoga retreat. This destination may not exactly be a hub of activity but there are enough things to see and do either on your own or together as a family.

Places worth a visit:

  • Chaweng Beach – one of the more popular beaches on the island with fine white sand and an excellent nightlife scene.
  • Chaweng Night Market – this place is the lead attraction of this island and a foodie’s paradise
  • Wat Phra Yai Temple – and experience the 12-metre high Big Buddha.
  • Wat Khunaram – the mummified monk who died in 1973 while meditating seated down.

This is the place to go for an idyllic and relaxing holiday that will probably be most easy on your wallet.

2. Taiwan

Spring season in Taiwan lasts from March to May and temperatures are usually nice and comfortable, typically between 20-25°C. It's certainly a good time to visit - you’ll get to see the cherry and plum blossoms in full bloom! With temperatures at such comfortable levels, it's also a good time for hiking and visiting the island's parks.

The spring season is also a time of many cultural events and festivals that can make your trip one to remember. You can catch the Penghu Ocean Fireworks Festival or the Baosheng Cultural Festival from April to June. The Baosheng festival is held at the city’s most popular temple with a variety of performances and activities to give you a little insight of the customs and traditions of the people.

3. Tokyo, Japan

Next on the list is Tokyo – the land of the rising sun and cherry blossoms. The best time to catch the Sakura season is during spring, between 20-28 March, the blossoms bloom during this period and usually last for approximately 7 days depending on the weather.

3 of the best places to view the Sakura are:

  • Shinjuku Gyoen – one of the largest national gardens which is located in the middle of the tourist hub and features a variety of 1,000 cherry trees.
  • Meguro River – a popular Sakura viewing spot with over 800 cherry trees along the banks of the river. During the season, a cherry blossom festival is held here with food vendors and lit-up  cherry blossoms after sunset.
  • Chidorigafuchi – the most picturesque of the three spots which is actually the moats of the Japanese Imperial Palace, surrounded by hundreds of cherry blossoms. The highlight is that visitors can rent paddle boats and view them from the water.

4. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Then, let's fly to the land of the Dutch – Amsterdam. This holiday spot boasts unconventional food, unique craft beer, a smorgasbord of cheeses, interesting museums, charming canals and a bike culture like no other – making it a great place to visit in spring.

There is a lot to see and do but something not to be missed is a visit to the Keukenhof Gardens - one of the most beautiful spring gardens in the world - which is situated about 40 minutes away from Amsterdam and is open to tourists from March to May and showcases around 4.5 million tulips. Tulip season is a limited time event and must be experienced at least once in your lifetime.

If tulips aren’t your favourite thing to see, you can also visit:

  • Vondelpark – the largest public park in the city.
  • Stroll down Haarlemmerstraat – for vintage clothes and some of the best chocolate.
  • Blijburg ann Zee – situated on Ijburg island and is easily accessible by tram 26 from the Central station.

There are so many other places to visit and sights to see during spring here that you will definitely not be bored.

5. Amalfi Coast, Italy

Finally, we have Italy on the list - a rather romantic city which has been featured in numerous movies, literature and poetry, with countless works of art, historical monuments and the best food that anyone can envision. A tour of Italy during spring - from April to June - showcases its magnificent landscapes encompassing both vibrant, colourful cities and idyllic natural country villages and vineyards that’ll definitely captivate you and leave you wanting more.

Wisteria blossoms all up and down the coast

A good place to start is the Amalfi Coast, rimmed by the "road of 1,000 bends" that connects small villages via a landscape of olive groves and lemon trees. Seeing as the tiny two-lane road can get crowded during summertime, spring is a much better time to visit.

This is also the season when flowers start to bloom and adorn the balcony and trellises in the local town. To begin, you can start with the quiet town of Praiano and then head to Positano to witness the Wisteria all around the coast. Also worth a visit, is Florence where the countryside boasts cypress trees, olive groves and other regional treasures.
