6 Fun Things To Do With Kids in Singapore. Meetups, Events and Happenings.

Got kids, or simply need some ready-made ideas to help with visitors? Relax. We’ve put together an essential list of 6 wallet-light (or free) things to do with kids in Singapore. Our useful roundup includes things to do when the weather is smiling, and even when the rain clouds gather. Happy days!

1. Events and Happenings

Check out the monthly Events and Happenings page at Singapore For Kids, they always have a thoughtful selection of regular and one-off happenings to help plan a great outing.  This website is also really helpful if you are looking for ideas for Birthdays or any kid-related indoor or outdoor stuff!

2. For Book Lovers

My Tree House is the centrepiece of the very cool enchanted forest themed childrens' library in the Central Public Library in Victoria Street. The 3.3m tall treehouse has a canopy made of loads of recycled bottles, which coupled with soft lighting, makes it feel like a hideout. There’s no shortage of books green topics from animals and plants to the weather, as well as a wide choice of fiction books including fairy tales and folk stories along the theme of the enchanted forest.

3. For Kite (and Boat) Lovers

Ok, this requires a kite, but it’s free and the kids (or you) may enjoy running along the grassy rooftop at the Marina Barrage. The Barrage showcases the dam that converted Singapore’s old harbor into a reservoir, and has become a regular hangout for kite enthusiasts.

You can also check out The Marina Bridge, allowing you to walk safely across both reservoir and sea at the same time. How’s that for multi-tasking? The kids can enjoy watching the sailing boats in the reservoir and you should be able to see some of the enormous container ships out to sea.

There is also splashy, splashy Water Park for the kids and (hooray for Mums & Dads) a café where you can relax and watch the water.

4. For Park Lovers

The 15km stretch of beach known as East Coast Park is the best and breeziest spot to lets the kids run free and get away from crowded shopping Malls (though perahps avoid it on public holidays when everyone is there). There are plenty of places to eat or BBQ pits are free  – BYO burgers and chicken wings, of course. Apply for a permit via AXS machine here (bottom of web page).

If you want to get further, faster, you can rent bikes for the family right in the Park. Easy does it!

5. Meeting Other Mums, Dads, Kids

If you want to find like minded people doing things you like to do in and around Singapore, go to Meetup and click on the All Meetups search box.  It’ll bring up groups doing whole range of kid and adult friendly stuff. You can organize a local group or find a group doing family, kid, baking, hang gliding, ice carving, (you name it) related things near you.

6. For Festival Lovers

The Sentosa Buskers Festival is back and jam-packed with action. This September, bring the whole family and be entertained for by local, international and budding buskers. Catch Titan the Robot, the Tivoli Boys Guard and many more set to wow you with their amazing acts. Drop by the Beer Garden or Food Street for refreshments or browse the regular Sentosa Boardwalk Bazaar (Saturday 4pm-11pm) for a dazzling variety of new and pre-loved items.

Singapore is notable for its many festivals, including annual events such as the Chingay Parade, Mosaic Music Festival and F1 Singapore Grand Prix. Your Singapore is a great place to find a festival to suit you.
